Ford Mustang which was introduced in global markets nearly fifty years ago and is its most affordable SUV is being launched in India towards end of 2014. Though Ford has announced unveiling of its celebratory Mustang 2014 variant in New York during an Auto Show the same will be a revised model with few changes on its exterior body and additional luxury features. Till date Ford has concentrated on selling hatchbacks and sedan cars like Figo, Classic and Fiesta.
Therefore when it launched the Ecosport a- mid range SUV in price range of INR 5.85 – 9.37 lakhs, the tremendous response could not be handled by Ford and it had to put a hold on further orders till existing bookings could be fulfilled. The Ford Mustang is designed like a sports car with long hood, low roof and upturned short tail section. Ford Mustang’s latest variant to be launched in India will be a sixth generation version with a wider body which is lower to the ground and also has greater passenger capacity.
The latest Mustang has already made its public debut on December 5, 2013 at various locations within United States, Spain, China and Sydney. This new variant will be available both as a coupe and a convertible with a multilayer cloth top that can be left open on good weather days. As a typical American car the Mustang has wide rear body with muscular rear wheel arches and groves on sides similar to pony cars. Likely to be offered in diesel and petrol fuel options the Mustang will have a new independent rear suspension for better road grip.
Front façade of Ford Mustang is impressive with new headlights and typical 2.3 liter four cylinder engine. Mustang’s convertible variant will have a shorter trunk due to space required for placing top of convertible. It is available within United States and Europe in six to seven colors though not much input is available about likely colors to be provided in India. Though Ford has not issued any official statements about launching the Mustang in India, market forces suggest that it will launch its sedan or coupe version to increase its market status and showcase its vision for future.
